Dr Issada Thongtrangan,

Issada Thongtrangan, M.D. or Dr. “T” is a Board eligible Orthopaedic surgeon who has had well-rounded and extensive training in orthopaedic surgery. He finished his residency at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center and was elected to receive “Best Resident” award upon his completion based on his excellent patient care, surgical skills, and teaching skills. He also served as a chief resident during his last year in the residency.
Dr. Thongtrangan is a uniquely fellowship-trained spine surgeon as he was trained in both orthopedic-spine and neurosurgery-spine fellowship programs. Fellowship training is recognized as the highest level in spine surgery training. He completed his Neurosurgical spine and peripheral nerve reconstruction fellowship at the world-renowned Stanford University Medical Center where he gained experience in complex spinal reconstruction, deformities, tumor and revision surgery to treat patients having undergone previous spinal surgery without success. He later accomplished his Orthopedic Spine fellowship at the prestigious Texas Back Institute where he learned multi-disciplinary approaches to various spinal disorders. During his fellowship year at Texas Back Institute, he had an opportunity to focus on cutting edge techniques such as minimally invasive or less invasive surgical procedures as well as artificial disc replacement. He has authored and co-authored several papers and book chapters on spinal disorders and management.
Not only spine fellowship trained, but Dr. Thongtrangan also has fellowship training in Orthopedic Trauma at the Medical college of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center and in Total Joint reconstruction at the University of Minnesota. With his vision and extensive training background, he offers his patients the best approach for excellent outcomes.
During his free time, Dr. T loves watching and playing soccer, reading, and cooking Thai food. He also loves traveling and learning about new cultures. He has a plan to perform mission work in Asia and South-east Asia.
"I strive to provide my patients with the best advice possible about their spine concerns. I evaluate each patient and their situation carefully, and make treatment recommendations based on their goals, preferences and what is medically in their best interest. My goal is to return my patients to productive and pain-free activity using the most advanced minimally invasive and motion-preserving techniques, holding surgery as a last option. My treatment philosophy is to treat my patients the way I would want myself or my family members to be treated. I always utilize what I like to refer to as the 'family test' when advising treatment and surgical options for my patients.”
