  • Anatomy of The Spine

Anatomy of The Spine: The spinal column (or vertebral column) extends from the base of the skull to the pelvis and is made up of 33 individual bones termed vertebrae. The vertebrae are stacked on top of each other and are grouped into four regions (Cervical, Thoracic, Lumbar, and Sacrum/Coccyx). The neck or Cervical spine consists of 7 vertebral bones, the midback or thoracic spine consists of 12 vertebral bones, and the low back or the Lumbar spine consists of 5 vertebral bones. The tailbone consists of the Sacrum, 5 fused vertebral bones that form a triangle and connect to 3 small bones termed the Coccyx.
