• Ankle Fracture Surgery

Ankle Fracture Surgery:

Unstable ankle fractures (those that have a tendency to fall apart) are treated surgically with open reduction (bones put back in place) and internal fixation (placement of plates and screws) to hold the broken pieces together.  This usually requires at least one incision on either side of the ankle.  The ankle then requires several weeks to heal before weight bearing can begin.
