Orthopedic Conditions

CONDITIONS OF THE FOOT AND ANKLE

  • Ankle Sprains

There are three types of ankle sprains grade one, two and grade three sprains. A grade one sprain is the most common and is the least severe of all sprains. In a grade one strain, the anklebones are often over-stretched but not actually torn. A grade two strain is more severe and the ligament is but still not torn. Grade three sprains are the most severe and the ligament is so significantly damaged that instability has resulted. A sprain that occurs in the front ligament is usually more severe than one that occurs in the back ligament.
