- Artificial Joint Replacement of the Finger
Artificial Joint Replacement of the Finger:
When arthrodesis (fusion) of a painful finger joint is not desired, joint replacement can be considered. Many conditions, to include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and post-traumatic conditions can lead to deformity and pain in the joints of the fingers. Depending on age, function, disease process and which finger is involved, silastic (silicone plastic), plastic and metal and newer materials such as pyrolytic carbon can be used to replace these joints.
