  • Basal Joint Osteoarthritis

Basal Joint Osteoarthritis is also called arthritis of the thumb. In Basal Joint Osteoarthritis pain is felt at the base of the thumb joint. Arthritis occurs when the smooth cartilage that covers the ends of the bones begins to wear out. Basal joint osteoarthritis is more common among woman then men. Arthritis is a progressive disease and gradually will get worse early treatment includes ice, splints and anti-inflammatory medication. When those methods do not work, basal joint surgery such as fusion, joint removal and reconstruction will be performed.
