• Basal Joint Surgery

Basilar Thumb Joint Surgery:

Surgery for arthritis at the base of the thumb is proven and highly effective.  Although there are many surgical variations, the basic theme is removal of the arthritic bone (the trapezium) at the base of the thumb and creation of a soft-tissue bumper or cushion in it’s place.  Although the surgery is almost universally successful, the rehabilitation after surgery is lengthy and requires patient cooperation.
