  • Scaphoid Fracture Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF)

Scaphoid Fracture Open Reduction and Internal Fixation:

The scaphoid is a small bone in the wrist that when broken can be very difficult to heal.  When the broken ends of this bone are out of place by more than a millimeter or two, surgery is usually considered.  Through an incision on the wrist, the bone ends are aligned and a screw or wires used to hold it in place until it heals.  Occasionally, bone is taken from the wrist to help the fracture heal.
